Why Hot Mop?

Hot Mop is the most reliable waterproofing method that has been in use for over 64 years. It has primarily been used in Southern California shower pans. Over the last half century Fulgham Shower Pans have put hot mop to other great waterproofing uses including Deck, Balconies, Roman Tubs, Planters, Foundations and more. Hot mop is more durable and lasts longer than any other waterproofing method available.

Our first step in hot mopping a shower pans is to provide a pre-slope at ¼ inch-per-foot from the walls to the drain flange. Then comes the actual hot mop. It is applied in three alternating layers of high quality liquified tar, roofing grade 15-weight perforated felt and fiberglass tape in the corners for reinforcement. The 15-weight perforated felt has tiny holes and lets the 500-degree liquid pass through allowing the 3 alternating layers to act as one solid watertight membrane.

How Does Hot Mop Work?

Tile grout and tile mortar is porous not waterproof. The water that gets through the tile grout & tile mortar gets to our pre-sloped hot mop membrane and travels down to the shower drain and escapes through the weep holes that empty into the main drainpipe.
Without this pre-sloped hot mop application, water will pass through the tile grout & tile mortar and just sit on the shower subfloor. This will lead to mold and bacteria and after a period of time, will be a costly repair.
